You have just entered into the blogging world of the Canadian & the
half-Canadian. We have no idea what we’re doing so just go with it.

Let us first start out by telling you who we actually are. The Canadian, Hannah, is the blonde. The half-Canadian, Kerri Anne, is the brunette. That’s basically all you need to know. Also, even though we don’t look a thing alike & we came from two different countries, we basically are the same person. We are the same person. It’s kinda scary.

You’re probably wondering why our blog is called Wednesday Sisters. Well let us enlighten you: every Wednesday it is our weekly routine to sit in a coffee shop (not Starbucks. We’re not that basic) & drink coffee for hours while we attempt to do school. Usually we just end up laughing, crying, and thinking about what we should do with our lives. Today we had that light bulb moment and now we’re here. Writing words on the internet for people to (hopefully) read. We were told by Kerri Anne’s dad that if we make this interesting then people might actually read it. So that’s what we’re gonna try to do.

The Beauty of Change

When I hear that word, change, I get a little uncomfortable. Change can be difficult, uncomfortable, and pretty terrifying at times. 
The problem is, you won’t get anywhere without it. 
Change will rip you out of your comfort zone and challenge you, and that’s what we all really need. One of the biggest changes I have ever experienced is moving from my comfortable, beautiful home in Canada, to the different, uncomfortable country of America. There were a lot of emotions ranging from excited, nervous, scared, lonely, and a lot of homesick. It took some time for me to adjust to my changed environment, and to get to a place where I felt at home. Once I got to that place, I was able to feel thankful for the change I had experienced.
My little world still changes often, and it can still be difficult to recover from changes.

We have to remember that change is necessary. You will not grow without it. I think there is a part of each of us that craves change, it’s just difficult to cross that uncomfortable bridge. There is so much beauty in change, never stop looking for it.
 
So if you’re facing changes, go into this change with bravery, excitement, hope, and gratitude. I am sure that on the other side of your change, there is an immeasurable amount of beauty. I’m going to end this with one of my favorite verses. Isaiah 43:19 always helps me to remember the joy, excitement and hope in change. If you’re in need of some encouragement, all of Isaiah 43 is a great chapter to read. God has a plan for you, and he is never surprised!

Summer Must-Haves

 With the summer approaching everyone is buying a new summer wardrobe, finding the best bathing suits, making beach/pool plans, planning summer vacations, etc. What you’re about to read is a short blog sharing with you all the fun & fashionable must-haves for your summer.

Swimsuit

Pretty sure everyone lives in their bathing suit in the summer. So finding that perfect swimsuit is crucial in our opinion. Just the other day I was helping Hannah shop online for her bathing suit & she literally took forever. She was really struggling. However, in the end she found her perfect swim suit and recently so did I! Hannah found a swimsuit from Jolyn, and Kerri’s black bathing suit top is from Panache.

Summer Clothes

I don’t know about you but I hate pants. Especially in the summer. So another summer must have is a closet full of dresses and skirts. Casual, formal, whatever floats your boat. And if you don’t like dresses and prefer pants. . . Well you go girl. Rock whatever your summer style is. A pair of cute sunglasses are also a must have for the summer. I get a new pair every year and I’m pretty sure it’s one of my favorite parts about summer. A few of our favorite stores are Cotton On (Kerri’s romper and Hannah’s Tank Top), Hollister (Hannah’s shorts), Target (Hannah’s Cardigan), and Buckle.

Make Up

Least favorite part about summer is the heat. Heat causes sweat and sweat causes gross, half-melted off make up. (*click on picture to see the description of product*)

A Journal 

A lot happens in summer. Going on road trips, weekend camping with friends, late night swimming in the lake, etc. Summer is the time to make memories so a journal is a great item to have. Writing at the end of your day or at the end of the week is really nice habit to get into. It’s also really nice to be able to look back at previous summers and relive those memories. The Black Bullet Journal is from Amazon, and the gold dot one is from Target. 

A book list 

All those times when you’re laying on the beach, chilling by the poolside, or sitting in your room alone because all your friends are on vacation..You really need something to do besides scroll through Instagram over and over again. SO put together a book list! Find some really exciting books that will suck you right in. My favorite author is Ted Dekker. All of his books are AMAZING! I’ve even read a few of them more than once. They’re that good. 

Take Advantage of the Warm Weather

This isn’t really a must have but I’m going to put it in anyways. Sometimes it might be tempting to stay in your cool air conditioned house, but soon you’ll be complaining about the cold weather, so go outside! Feel the sun on your skin while you take a walk, eat your breakfast, read your book, or chat with a friend. Also keep in mind that being outside will improve your mood, decrease stress, and give you a rocking summer tan!

Working the Mind, Body, & Soul

If you know me you know I LOVE to dance. If you know me really well you know i also love to do yoga. If you didn’t know that..well now you do.

I love yoga for so many reasons. In this blog, I’m going to share with you all the reasons why I love it and all the benefits that come with doing yoga.

• Improves the quality of your sleep. I don’t know about you but I love sleeping. I basically nap every moment I can ( SHORT STORY TIME: one time I decided to take a nap around 4pm. Usually, the time I start to get really tired. I woke up from that nap at 8pm, went downstairs and got some water and a snack, then I was in bed and asleep at 9pm…Slept all through the night too. That’s freaking talent.) Although I still have those nights where I’m not tired at all and I just know I’m not going to be tired for a while. So around the time I want to crawl in bed I take out my yoga mat and do a 20-30 minute, low-key yoga sequence. Mostly focusing on breathing, stretching, and engaging and working the core.

Improves mental concentration and reduces stress. This is so true. Doing a yoga routine in the morning before anything else really puts you in a good place. If I know I have a busy day that requires a lot of concentration I will wake up early to do yoga. It basically works like magic. After my yoga routine (and my shower…) I feel ready to attack my day and everything I have written in my bullet journal.

There are so many more mental benefits that come with doing yoga. Now I want to share with you some of the physical benefits of doing yoga.

Increased core strength. Just think about it. All that balancing in different poses, shifting your weight from one pose to another and not falling down! It’s a lot of work! But it all pays off when you have that healthy and toned core.

Like I said before, there are so many more benefits that come with yoga. Like, Pain and tension relief, Body detoxification, Improves posture, improves digestions and is great for you mentally.

Pretty positive Hannah & I are not your typical teenage girls. I mean we blog about recipes & ways to stay organized so you probably already figured…

We also really love grocery shopping. Our favorite place to shop would have to be Trader Joe’s. So many wonderfully organic and gluten free options. (interesting fact about us: we both can’t have gluten. we’re pretty special) Though they do have other options for people who are actually normal.

Bullet Journal Ideas

 

Late February I (Hannah) got pulled into the pretty world of Bullet Journaling. Of course, I dragged Kerri along with me (because that’s what sisters are for).

Anyways now we’re obsessed and love listening to music, drinking coffee, and bullet journaling. So I guess you might be wondering what exactly is bullet journaling anyways? Why should you care? Ryder Carroll created the original Bullet Journal system, and it’s basically a simple way to organize your life. He has helpful pictures as well as a video on the website: http://bulletjournal.com/. The great thing about Bullet Journaling is it’s very customizable and easy. We’re a little over a month into using our journals, so we thought we would share our favorite uses.Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

  1. Daily Planning – This is probably one of the most common ways to use a bullet journal, and it’s very helpful. You can make your plans really simple, or very detailed and pretty. Personally, it really depends on how much time I have. Here’s one of my (Hannah) more detailed plans. It was very much inspired by the blog Boho Berry (along with a lot of my other pages). The numbers along the top are hours in the day, each color is kind of a plan and helps me to see a rough outline of my day (blue for sleeping, pink for dancing, etc.). I then separate my tasks and plans by school, chores, and events. I also included a water counter and the weather. This page was a Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetlot of fun to make, but I definitely do not have the time for it everyday. I also really like to put a quote or verse at the end of a page.

2. Meal Plans – Meal planning is a great tool for staying organized. People who meal plan tend to save money, because you know exactly what you need and are less likely to buy extra stuff. Pay attention to sales, and try to eat the fruits and vegetables that are in season; they taste the best and are usually cheaper!

3. Monthly Plans – At the beginning of every month we love to look ahead at what our plans, goals, and important birthdays are. It is really helpful to be able to see your month “at a glance”.

For this page, I like to write down any events I have, monthly goals, and important birthdays.

Confidence

I look at confidence in two ways:

• Having confidence in the things you do in life.

• Having confidence in yourself. 

In my opinion, this is something you must have to get anywhere in life.

You need confidence when walking into a job interview. You need it to get through a performance (talking to all the dancers out there) or a game (talking to all the other athletes). Other places where confidence would be needed is when trying new things. but most importantly, you need to have confidence in yourself. If you’re not confident in who you are as a person, what you can do, & what you will do… well good luck my friend. Good luck.

However, I will admit something before I continue with this blog.

I am one of those people who have no self-confidence. So when I say this I’m not lying; having no self-confidence makes trying different things, going different places, taking leaps in life, & transitioning from one chapter in my life to another, very hard.

Now I’m going to go on about the first type of confidence I listed above:

With zero confidence, the only thing you believe are the lies that you allow to be placed in your mind. Lies that will put you in a hole so deep that you feel absolutely helpless. At this point, you just go along with it, give into the lies, and stop believing in the person God made you to be and the places he has set for you to go.

For years now I have given into the lies that have destroyed my confidence. So now it’s really hard to look forward and attack opportunities. I’m afraid that the worst will happen because I don’t believe in myself & the things I can do. I tend to get so wrapped up in the fear & consumed in my lack of confidence that I forget the most important thing.

God.

 When I remember that I have Him by my side, the little amount of faith I have in myself grows. Then I feel like I can accomplish my next step in life because I have God holding my hand, walking beside me.

Now going onto my next point that I listed above

I also remember that I am who I am because of HIM. That’s such a wonderful thing too. To be fearfully & wonderfully made in his image. It’s stupid really to get caught up in all the thoughts & lies that tell me I’m something else other than perfect in His eyes. Once I remember that I feel more confident in myself which makes taking the next step in life less intimidating… and I’m pretty sure we can all admit that the future is intimidating. Not knowing what’s going to happen. Or even when something terrible happens & you don’t know how it’s going to affect you.

I’ve learned over the past couple months that confidence plays a big part in life. If you don’t have any in yourself it’ll put a stop to following the path you’re meant to be on. You’ll miss out on a lot of great things because the fear that the lack of confidence placed in you made you stay where you are

So if I were to sum everything I just said & make my point stand out more, I would say this:

Have faith in yourself. Believe that you can accomplish great things. Have confidence in who you are as a person aka the beautiful masterpiece God created.

I dont know if I got more out of this then anyone else who reads it but it was worth a shot sharing my emotions & feelings. But I really do hope someone understood this blog & at least got a little something out of it.

Stuffed Peppers

Over Spring Break Kerri Anne and I actually left our rooms and stayed with Hannah’s godparent’s. Here are a few fun pictures

SO of course we love to cook and enjoyed helping make dinners and breakfasts there. One night we made Stuffed Peppers and they turned out AMAZING. We kind of made it up as we went along and worked with what was in Miss Linda’s fridge.

Start by making your rice. We cooked a cup of jasmine rice, and then added a packet of IMG_6018Organic Quinoa and Brown Rice by Seeds of Change. This is seasoned with garlic and a few
other herbs. The Seeds of Change blend is already cooked so we simply stirred the two together once the jasmine rice was cooked.

 

Next, we diced 1 tomato, 1 small jalapeno (Be sure to remove all the seeds!), and about a cup of chopped kale. You can use whatever sounds good to you!

We used a Lemon Pepper Blend, Oregano, Garlic & Herb, and some Avacado Oil. We really don’t measure very often, but we probably used a little over a teaspoon for the spices and a teaspoon of Avacado Oil. Now would probably be a good time to heat your oven to about 350 F.

Now for the fun part! Cut your bell peppers in half, and remove all the seeds and stuff inside. We used 3 peppers, but we did have some of the “filling” leftover. Stuff your peppers with as much of the rice mixture as you can.

If you like cheese, you can sprinkle some on top of your peppers now. Parmesan, Cheddar, and Feta are a few good options for this recipe!

 

 

We baked these for maybe 10 minutes, and then broiled them for a little less than 5. Just keep an eye on them so they don’t burn under the hot broiler!

That’s it! We enjoyed our peppers with some Kale Salad, and GF corn bread. We hope you love this very versatile and delicious recipe!

A Few of our Favorite Things {March}

Welcome to a new series! This is something we hope to keep up with monthly. The title pretty much explains it all… We’re just going to write about our favorite stuff. Hannah’s answers will be in this color. Kerri will answer using this color

♥Beauty♥

I have pretty sensitive skin, and I recently learned my eyes are very sensitive as well. After wearing mascara for a few hours, my eyelashes would feel like they were trying to pull themselves out. It was pretty annoying. SO I tried a hypoallergenic mascara and eyeliner from Target, called No7, and I like them both a lot! They work well, and don’t bother my eyes. 

I really love NYC eyebrow kit & Rimmel eyebrow pencil. They both fill in my eyebrows really well yet still make them look natural and not look like I drew them on. I’m still trying to find a powder/foundation that looks natural and matches my skin tone. I really like Rimmel & right now I’m using the moose foundation in the color Ivory. Really love this foundation because its great for just everyday wear or performance wear (stage make) because it stays on all day though all my sweating and grossness. B U T I’m struggling with  finding a color that matches my face as well as my neck.

 Clothing♥

I got to visit Anthropologie for the first time this month and I fell in love. After maybe half an hour of looking around I found the clearance section. Thank goodness for that little piece of the store, am I right? I fell in love with many things, but decided on one pretty blouse.

Since it was on sale I was not able to find it online. I will link you to their Meadow Rue collection, which is where my shirt is from. They have many more beautiful pieces (although very expensive).

My absolutely favorite clothing right now is a dress that comes with a  matching coat. ♥ I just bought it and my heart is strongly attached to this outfit. It is from my favorite antique store, Red Feathered Nest, over in Hilton Village, Newport News VA. If you live in that area or even around the area this is place you MUST go! 

♥Meals♥

Lately one of my favorite meals has been Trader Joe’s Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup, with toast or some kind of vegetables on the side. It’s easy + perfectly warm and cozy for these last Winter months.

♥Snacks♥

Protein Cookie!!! I really want to blog about this sometime soon so keep an eye out for it. But basically its a thick peanut butter/oat mix with a lot of other things shaped in the form of a cookie. Literally I have it all the time on the side with a smoothie or juice or just a quick snack to go. They’re so. Freaking. Good.

These 5 ingredient Blender Peanut Butter Banana muffins. They’re really quick and a great little snack. 

Tea or Coffee♥

I’ve been loving Celestial’s Sleepytime tea before bed, and sometimes in the morning too. It’s a warm and comforting blend of chamomile, cool spearmint, and lemongrass.

I’m obsessed with coffee.

♥Music♥

I’ve been listening to Pure Heroine by Lorde a lot lately. I kind of forgot about this album for a long time, and then remembered that it exists and should be listened to. 

Definitely my favorite escape from life is music. Especially when it comes to Frank Sinatra. I am constantly listening to Sinatra on vinyl (the best way to listen to music) and his music basically speaks to my soul & gives me life. 

 ♥Tv or Movies♥

Kerri and I have been watching Parks and Recreation together! I’m pretty sure we laugh every two minutes while watching this show. Most of the time it takes me a couple episodes to enjoy a show, but I’ve loved this one from the first episode.

♥Books♥

This March I finished reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbertand I thought it was very interesting and inspirational. Some of her ideas are a little “out there” but it challenged me to look at creativity in a different, healthier light. 

Does the subtitles on Netflix count as reading? I really don’t like reading. . .

8 Essentials for Athletes

Kerri Anne and I both dance many times a week, doing a bunch of styles from Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Jazz, etc. We also enjoy other forms of exercise like yoga and pilates. So we have some essentials that can be useful for almost any sport / form of exercise.

A Tennis Ball

A tennis ball is a must have in your gym bag/dance bag. During breaks in class I sometimes will break out my tennis ball. The places I tend to use my tennis ball is my feet, (this is one of the best because it breaks all the soft tissue & prevents injuries)   hip sockets, upper back, lower back, calves, and the booty. I’ve attached some links below of youtube videos showing you how to use the tennis ball properly.

Icy Hot

Icy hot is kind of like magic. If you struggle with a reoccurring injury, chronic pain, or even just recovering from a pulled muscle, icy hot will be your best friend. It comes in a few different forms (gel, spray, balm, etc.).

An Outfit You Love

It’s a fact of life that when I like the clothes I’m wearing, I dance better.

Well… It may not be a fact, but I think it’s true. Make sure you feel good in your workout clothes, but also make sure they don’t interfere with what you’re doing. I love to wear leggings, shorts, tank tops, and sometimes a light sweater. Find out what works best for you!

Drugs. . .

Yes, I am just a dancer BUT I very much consider myself an athlete. Albert Einstein did say, “Dancers are the athletes of God,” so i’m gonna go with it. So moving on, any form of medicine you can think of…i have in my bag. I will admit though that it is the worst for you. You never want to immediately go to pills when you strain a muscle or your back hurts.   The B E S T option for you and your body is STOPPING whatever you’re doing, put any form of icy hot on it, use an ice pack, use a heating pad, roll around on a tennis ball, etc. Any of the more natural ways to relieve your pain is always the best option.

A Chiropractor

A human being that cracks your backs in places you didn’t know could crack is must have for an Athlete. Like seriously fam…If you don’t have a chiropractor you need to freaking
get one. It is very common for athletes & dancers to have issues with the neck, back, hips, knees, etc. If not just one of those then all of them..like me.. Some are worse than others but no matter how serious it is a chiropractor can help. I go to one at least once or twice every two weeks. It improves my movement in class and my body feels better overall when my body is aligned.

Cross Training

This could be an entire blog post in itself. Here’s the dictionary definition for cross training: “training in two or more sports in order to improve fitness and performance, especially in a main sport.” Most people pick a form of exercise and tend to stick to that, whether it be soccer, tennis, running, or for us, dancing. The problem with this is that we often become   unbalanced, working certain muscle groups much more than others. This can become a major problem, and can lead to injury. Kerri and I often do things like yoga, pilates, and we take a stretch/strength class at our studio, which is designed to cross train us dancers.  Research cross training specifically for your sport –  it prevent injuries, but it will also enhance your performance!

Fun

One of the most important essentials is to really enjoy what you’re doing. If you hate playing your sport, find something else! There will always be days when you feel lazy and don’t want to do it, but overall you should be happy with how you are spending your time. If you hate going to class or practice, you won’t perform as well and will likely quit eventually. Maybe you love the sport, but hate the environment you are in. So find a different team! Make necessary changes in order to love what you’re doing… but also understand when you just have to wait out a bad season.

Good Snacks and Nutrition

We are planning a whole blog post all about our favourite snacks, particularly on busy days. Healthy eating is an important aspect of anyone’s life, but even more so if you are training. If you struggle to have a well-rounded diet, meal planning is a great tool! Research and consider what your body needs, and plan accordingly.

Philippians 4:13

Philippians 4:13.

“I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.”

This is such a well-known verse to people. Athletes are known to use this verse to help them get through their rough game/practices, you will see it multiple times on shirts, keychains, etc & people will tend to use this verse to give them power to accomplish a tough task or to defeat the enemy.

BUT does anyone really know what this verse means? Why it was written? Who it was written by and the reasons for him writing? What situation was the author in when it was written? I definitely did not know any of that until about a week ago when I was enlightened (have you noticed that this is my favorite word? I use it quite a lot in these blogs)  by a fantastic pastor of mine. (His name is John Ware & he’s the youth pastor at Bethel Church)

The Apostle Paul is the one who wrote Philippians & to understand what this passage actually means we have to read the verse in its context.

Lets take a look at the verses that surround the one I’m talking about today.

10 How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, [d] who gives me strength.

Philippians can also be called, “Recourses through Suffering.” This book is about our strength + our goals being in Christ, for Christ to be in our lives & mind, & to be joyful in times of suffering.

 Paul stated (in the verses above) that he learned to live with everything & nothing at all, with food & without food, & in any situation good or bad. I could imagine it’s a challenge living with hardly anything. Especially when it comes to food & money. I have been so blessed all my life to always have food in my fridge & pantry. I’ve also been blessed with money in the times that I needed it most. (I also have wonderful parents who buy me things when I have burnt a hole in my wallet because of the liquid drug called coffee in which you get at Starbucks. It literally takes all the bucks from me. okay, sorry for being stupid. moving on.) However, life isn’t that sweet. There will be times where you will have nothing. B U T  living on nothing will not be so hard because you can do all things through christ who strengthens you.

Paul was a very courageous man who was given many opportunities to do momentous things for the Kingdom of God. However, like everyone, Paul had somewhat of a troubled side.  Back then preaching the Gospel was “unlawful” & before he became a Christ follower he would kill and imprison Christians because he thought they were blaspheming God & what was written in the Old Testament. Then he was actually placed in prison because he preached the Gospel. He even wrote this book from Prison.

Paul definitely lost a lot & gained a lot. He was, at points in his life (like stated earlier in the blog), poor. Then at other points he was wealthy and had everything he could ever ask for. He never knew what place or situation in life he would be in. Though whatever path God set him on he could walk until the end because he could do all things through Christ who strengthened him.

In ANY situation (good or bad) he could handle it. and ( . .bout to get real cheesy here. . ) so can you.

So what are you facing right now? Are you in a good season in your life? Bills are paid, you have great kids, & you don’t dread going over to your in-laws? If so, great! Lucky you. . .  Or are you in a bad season? You’re out of your job, bills aren’t paid, and your in-laws are the last people on this earth you want to see but you can get away from them? Obviously, I’m being idiotically funny for some parts of this but in all seriousness. . .Whatever it is, good bad, & ugly. .It’s nothing you can’t handle….because you can do all things through Christ!
